Hyderabad (Telangana) [India] September 24: In a remarkable display of civic responsibility, students and staff from Oasis School in Raidurg participated in the Ozone Run 2024, presenting a petition calling for improved road hygiene and cleanliness in Hyderabad. This initiative highlights the school’s commitment to fostering environmental stewardship among its students.
The petition, signed by 1,817 students, aims to address pressing sanitation issues affecting the area, including improper waste disposal, foul odors, and the presence of street dogs near dumping sites. The students collaborated with peers from various schools across the city as part of their commitment to raising awareness and advocating for a cleaner environment.
“While we appreciate the efforts of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to improve living conditions, we are concerned about the health and safety implications of the current sanitation issues in our community,” said Mrs. Usha Karumathil, Principal of Oasis School. “Our students are eager to contribute to solutions that will lead to a cleaner, safer Hyderabad for everyone.”
The petition emphasizes the need for regular waste clearance and the implementation of safety measures to protect residents, particularly students who navigate these areas daily. Enclosed with the petition is a presentation outlining specific concerns and proposed solutions, showcasing the students’ dedication to active participation in community health initiatives.
The Ozone Run 2024 attracted over 1,000 participants, uniting families, students, and community leaders in support of environmental awareness and action. The event featured distinguished guests, including Shri Jagadeeswar Goud, MLA Contestant from Serilingampally, and Mr. Gareth Wynn Owen, British Deputy High Commissioner, who underscored the importance of public engagement in addressing environmental challenges.
The success of Ozone Run 2024 was driven by the passionate efforts of its founders: Ms.Bilvoa Vunnam, Ms.Teerdha Vunnam, Mrs.Meghana Musunuri, and Mr.Sridhar Vunnam, who have worked tirelessly to make the event a significant platform for raising awareness about environmental issues.
