New Delhi (India), March 19:<\/strong> The VIDHI SAMMAN Awards, marking a new chapter in the Indian legal community\u2019s recognition of excellence, made a memorable debut at the conclusion of Vidhi Utsav 2024 on March 17. Held at the Constitution Club of India, New Delhi, this event, organized by OakBridge Publishing, celebrated the profound contributions of esteemed legal figures, including the\u00a0Late Mr. Fali\u00a0S\u00a0Nariman (Sarvoch\u00a0Vidhi Samman),\u00a0Vishisht\u00a0Vidhi Samman to Former Chief Justice M.N.\u00a0Venkatachaliah,\u00a0and to\u00a0Sr Advocates\u00a0Mr. K.K.\u00a0Venugopal\u00a0and\u00a0Mr. K. Parasaran, and Vidhi Samman to\u00a0eminent jurists\u00a0Mr Lalit Bhasin,\u00a0Mr\u00a0V.\u00a0Lakshmikumaran,\u00a0and\u00a0Mr Amarjit Singh Chandhiok.<\/p>\n

Chief Guest,\u00a0Justice\u00a0Rajiv\u00a0Shakdher,\u00a0Judge Delhi High Court,\u00a0inaugurated\u00a0Vidhi Utsav\u00a0\u2013 India\u2019s First Festival of Law and Legal Literature\u00a0and delivered an inspirational\u00a0and insightful\u00a0keynote address\u00a0expressing\u00a0his fascination with an event that amalgamates law and literature, an intriguing intersection\u00a0with thought provoking examples from western and Indian literature.\u00a0Reflecting on Nani\u00a0Palkhivala\u2019s\u00a0advice to aspiring lawyers to read everything but law, he highlighted the significance of broader knowledge, including history.\u00a0Palkhivala\u2019s\u00a0mastery, despite stammering, exemplifies the transformative power of interdisciplinary learning, a legacy few can emulate. His courtroom prowess, notably during the\u00a0Kesavananda\u00a0Bharati case, remains unparalleled.<\/p>\n

While\u00a0the late Mr. Fali\u00a0S\u00a0Nariman was posthumously honored with the\u00a0Sarvoch\u00a0Vidhi Samman.\u00a0Retired Judge of the Supreme Court of India,\u00a0Justice\u00a0A.K.\u00a0Patnaik, presented this esteemed recognition. Accepting the award on Mr. Nariman\u2019s behalf was\u00a0Mr\u00a0Lalit Bhasin,\u00a0President Society of Indian Law Firms (SILF)\u00a0symbolizing\u00a0his enduring legacy in the legal community and\u00a0his\u00a0fifty-year-old\u00a0friendship with Mr Fali Nariman.\u00a0The awards were part of Vidhi Utsav 2024, an\u00a0unprecedented and uniquely curated\u00a0event that over two days brought together a vibrant community of\u00a0eminent jurists,\u00a0legal professionals, scholars,\u00a0artists and\u00a0students. Through discussions, workshops, and keynote addresses,\u00a0poetry, musical performances, dastangoi and standup comedy\u00a0the festival aimed to spur innovation, celebration, camaraderie\u00a0and collaboration within the legal sector. The inclusion of the\u00a0VIDHI SAMMAN\u00a0Awards in this year\u2019s festival underscored OakBridge Publishing\u2019s commitment to\u00a0honoring\u00a0individuals who have made a lasting impact on the practice and understanding of law in India\u00a0thereby advancing the rule of law and enabling access to justice.<\/p>\n

Among the participants were Justice A.K. Sikri former Judge Supreme Court of India, Retired Justice Najmi Waziri, also known as the Green Judge, Sr Advocate and Author Mr Satvik Varma, and Sr Advocate\u00a0Mr. Sridhar Potaraju\u00a0known for his role in the Ram\u00a0Janmbhoomi\u00a0case. The event featured a host of notable sessions, such as \u201cOpportunities in Disruption\u201d by\u00a0Rameesh\u00a0Kailasam, CEO of Indiatech.org,\u00a0Discussion on Entry of Foreign Law Firms by Mr\u00a0Mr\u00a0Amit\u00a0Kapur, Mr Manish Lamba and Ameya Kunte,\u00a0and an examination of the\u00a0new Criminal Laws by Sr Advocates Ms NS Nappinai, Ms Geeta Luthra, Ms Shobha Gupta, and\u00a0Mr Kunal Vajani. Another Panel Discussion on Diversity, Equity and Inclusivity in the legal profession was chaired by Ms Pallavi Saluja, Co-founder and Managing Editor Bar and Bench, offered some great insights on the current situation, awareness, sensitivity and other challenges, and possible ways to address the same.\u00a0Sessions on\u00a0Law and Technology,\u00a0transforming role of General Counsels,\u00a0Holistic Well Being,\u00a0Personal Branding for Lawyers,\u00a0were also highly appreciated.\u00a0Sr Advocate Mr Vivek Sood also made some powerful points about ease of criminal justice in India.\u00a0<\/p>\n
